Modulating the impact of cell metabolism on alternative splicing

My scientific activity focuses on the characterization of fundamental aspects of RNA processing. More recently my main interest was the analysis of alternative splicing (AS) deregulation in cancer progression. We showed that the level of splicing regulator SRSF1 controls the transition from epithelial to mesenchymal cell. Interestingly, the levels of SRSF1 transcripts are regulated at the post-transcriptional level through AS events in the 3’ UTR that direct the degradation of SRSF1 RNA via the Non-sense mediated RNA decay pathway. These events in turn are controlled by the cell metabolism, in particular by intermediated of the Krebs cycle.
